Bhopal Passport Office Launches Inclusive Initiative with Braille Information

Bhopal, April 7: The Regional Passport Office in Bhopal has launched an unprecedented outreach initiative, introducing inclusive promotional materials for applicants. This effort marks a first of its kind among regional passport offices.

The initiative aims to ensure that information related to passport services is easily accessible to all applicants, particularly for those who are visually impaired or have speech and hearing disabilities.

As part of this initiative, information about passport services is now available in Braille for visually impaired applicants. The Braille booklets provide detailed guidance on the passport application process, including information on ECR and Non-ECR categories, necessary documentation, types of applications such as regular and urgent, and essential dos and don’ts.

Additionally, Braille signage plates have been installed in the office, allowing visually impaired visitors to read directions and information easily.

Similarly, a series of videos in sign language has been launched for applicants who are deaf or hard of hearing. These videos explain various stages of the application process, including Counter A (biometric registration), Counter B (document verification), and Counter C (passport application approval). QR codes accompany the videos, enabling applicants to access more information directly on the relevant webpages.

The initiative was inaugurated by Joint Secretary (PSP) B.S. Mubarak on April 7, 2026, in the presence of Regional Passport Officer Shitanshu Chaurasia.

Officials stated that this initiative reflects a commitment to making passport services more inclusive and citizen-centric, ensuring that no applicant is left behind.

This move clearly indicates that the Passport Department is striving to make services accessible to all citizens through both digital and physical means. Experts believe that such initiatives will not only benefit visually impaired and hearing-impaired applicants but will also make the passport application process more transparent and easier for all citizens.
