Bhavik Kumar Bharwad Disqualified from Asian Para Games, Silver Medal Stripped

Bhavik Kumar Bharwad disqualified from 400m T47 final at Asian Para Games, losing his silver medal due to lane violation.

Nagoya, October 22 (Daily Kiran) : In a surprising turn of events at the Asian Para Games in Nagoya, Bhavik Kumar Bharwad was disqualified from the men’s 400 meters T47 final, resulting in the loss of his silver medal. The disqualification was due to a violation of lane rules.

During the race held at Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, Bharwad finished with a time of 49.31 seconds, placing him second. Another Indian athlete, Dilip Mahadu Gavit, competing in the T46 category, secured the gold medal with a time of 48.27 seconds. However, Bharwad’s disqualification was announced post-race, citing a breach of rule TR18.2 (C), which mandates strict adherence to designated lanes.

Following Bharwad’s disqualification, Japan’s Kakeru Ishida moved up to the second position with a time of 49.58 seconds. Additionally, Uzbekistan’s Marufjon Muroduloev and Sri Lanka’s Saman Subasinghe were jointly awarded third place, both clocking in at 50.03 seconds, marking their best performances of the season.

While Bharwad faced disqualification, Gavit celebrated his second gold medal of the Games. Earlier, he had already won gold in the men’s 100 meters T47 event with an impressive time of 10.69 seconds. Another Indian athlete, Basil, also excelled, earning a silver medal in the same event and setting a new record with a time of 10.72 seconds.

Dilip Gavit had previously made headlines at the 2022 Asian Para Games by winning gold in the men’s 400 meters T47, marking India’s historic 100th medal at the Games. His recent performances have further elevated the country’s standing, as he aims for glory at the upcoming Paris 2024 Paralympics.
