New Delhi, February 10: The identity of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region is gradually evolving into a new narrative. Once associated with Maoism, violence, and underdevelopment, Bastar is now gaining recognition for its rich tribal culture, traditions, and growing confidence. A significant example of this transformation is the ‘Bastar Pandum’, celebrated with great enthusiasm and dignity from February 7 to 9.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media platform X to express his thoughts on the event, stating, “The special ‘Bastar Pandum’ was held in Chhattisgarh from February 7 to 9. This festival showcased the grandeur of Bastar’s rich culture, traditions, and tribal heritage. My heartfelt congratulations to all those involved in this effort. Such events play a crucial role in preserving our cultural heritage and empowering local communities.”
He further noted, “In the past, mentioning Bastar conjured images of Maoism, violence, and developmental lag. However, the situation has changed dramatically. Today, Bastar is known for its development and the increasing confidence of its local people. I hope that the future here is filled with peace, progress, and a spirit of cultural pride.”
Earlier, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also attended the ‘Bastar Pandum’ and described it as a symbol of historical change for the region. He remarked, “Emerging from the fear and violence of left-wing extremists, Bastar is advancing its culture and heritage, becoming a brand ambassador for a developed India. Today, at the ‘Bastar Pandum’ in Jagdalpur, I interacted with tribal brothers and sisters while distributing awards.”
He added, “The Bastar that was once shrouded in darkness due to IEDs and explosives is now gaining global recognition for its art, culture, cuisine, and heritage under Modi Ji’s leadership. I observed an exhibition showcasing the rich legacy of tribal art and culture at ‘Bastar Pandum’ in Jagdalpur.”
He concluded, “This event is a testament to how a government with good intentions, strong policies, and clear objectives can achieve what once seemed impossible. The joyful and vibrant Bastar at ‘Bastar Pandum’ is a direct witness to the journey from Maoism to development under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.”
