New Delhi, March 22: The Bangladesh Cricket Board has postponed its scheduled tour to Ireland, originally set for September 2026. Instead, the board plans to host the Indian cricket team during this period.
According to an official from the Bangladesh Cricket Board, when the series against India was shifted from 2025 to September 2026, a request was made to Cricket Ireland for new dates. However, the Ireland Cricket Board expressed its inability to reschedule the tour for 2026. Consequently, both boards mutually agreed to postpone the series.
The Bangladesh tour to Ireland may take place sometime in 2027.
As per the original schedule, the Indian cricket team is set to arrive in Bangladesh on August 28, 2026, for a series comprising three ODIs and three T20 matches. The ODI matches are scheduled for September 1, 3, and 6, while the T20 matches will be held on September 9, 12, and 13.
Recently, Bangladesh secured a 2-1 victory over Pakistan in a home ODI series. Following this win, Bangladesh climbed to ninth place in the ICC ODI rankings, boasting 79 rating points and surpassing the West Indies, who are currently in tenth place. The team’s focus is now on qualifying for the 2027 ODI World Cup. To qualify directly, Bangladesh must secure a spot in the top eight by March 31, 2027. If they fail to do so, they will have to participate in a qualifying tournament.
With the postponement of the Ireland tour, Bangladesh has upcoming home series against New Zealand, Australia, and India, along with tours to South Africa and Zimbabwe.
Relations between Bangladesh and India have been unusual in recent months. Bangladesh did not travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 matches, leading to a boycott of the event. It remains uncertain whether the Indian team will visit Bangladesh for the ODI and T20 series. If India’s tour is delayed for any reason, Bangladesh will have limited ODI matches left before the qualification deadline, complicating their direct entry into the World Cup.
