Bangladesh Cricket Needs Stability, Appeals Captain Shanto

Dhaka: Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has publicly urged the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to ensure continuity and stability in the country’s cricketing landscape. His appeal comes amid uncertainty over Bangladesh’s participation in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Speaking at a press conference after a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match, Shanto said, “As a player, the off-field environment over the past year or two has caused significant harm to cricket. I appeal to those in responsible positions to come together, find solutions, and make sure cricket continues. Without better administration and clear planning, uncertainty will only increase, affecting both players and the sport.”

Shanto also emphasized that if Bangladesh is unable to take part in the World Cup, the BCB should organise a strong and well-managed domestic competition to provide players with constant competitive opportunities. He called for improvements in hosting domestic matches, especially in Dhaka, stating that the tournament must be conducted more efficiently compared to previous editions.

Highlighting the need to separate on-field and off-field issues, Shanto warned that administrative conflicts could harm the progress, competitiveness, and future of Bangladesh cricket. His comments reflect a shared concern within the cricket community demanding responsible leadership to maintain the game’s momentum.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board recently boycotted the 2026 T20 World Cup after the International Cricket Council (ICC) rejected their request to move matches against India from Bangladesh to Sri Lanka. Following Bangladesh’s withdrawal, Scotland may be invited to replace them in the tournament.

Additionally, the ICC could impose strict disciplinary action against Bangladesh due to this boycott.
