Ujjain, 1 January: On the first day of the year, a large number of devotees thronged the Mahakal temple in Ujjain. From early morning, devotees waited in long queues through the fog to have a glimpse of Baba Mahakal.

Special adornments were made to Baba Mahakal on the New Year’s first day, dressing him as the king of Ujjain. Devotees felt elated to witness this extraordinary sight, and the entire temple premises echoed with chants of “Har Har Mahadev.”

Following the Panchamrit puja in the Mahakal temple, Baba was decorated in a royal form, featuring the moon, sun, and trident marked on his forehead. During the Panchamrit puja, Baba is bathed with water, fruits, milk, curd, and ghee before the adornment. This Thursday, the darshan was particularly rare and remarkable as both the moon and sun were inscribed together on Baba’s forehead.

The temple doors will remain open until 11 PM tonight, allowing devotees to have darshan throughout the day.

Speaking to the media on this special occasion, a priest of Baba Mahakal said millions of devotees hold deep faith in Baba, considering the past year and the coming times dedicated to him. Consequently, a massive crowd gathered at Baba’s shrine for his exceptional darshan. The priest also mentioned that devotees have come from abroad to pay their respects.

In Varanasi, a special Mangala Aarti was held at Kashi Vishwanath temple to mark the New Year, while thousands gathered at Assi Ghat for the Ganga Aarti to welcome the year. Baba Kashi Vishwanath was bathed with milk, curd, and ghee, and then adorned with Rudraksha beads and flower garlands. The Kashi Vishwanath temple will remain open till late night on this occasion. As the sun rose, the temple area saw an increasing number of devotees.
