Ayodhya, April 8: A wave of joy swept through the saint community in Ayodhya as the Haridwar Municipal Corporation unanimously passed a proposal to relocate meat shops outside the city limits in preparation for the upcoming Ardh Kumbh Mela. This decision is seen as a significant step towards maintaining the sanctity of the holy city, and it has been warmly welcomed by the saints.
Mahant Ashish Das of Hanumangarhi praised the initiative, emphasizing the need for effective implementation at the grassroots level. He congratulated the Chief Minister, asserting that the consumption of meat and alcohol should not occur at any religious site, as it negatively impacts society. He also noted that substance abuse leads individuals to engage in wrongful activities, hence a complete ban is essential.
Amit Das Ji Maharaj from Siddh Peeth Hanumangarhi also commended the Haridwar Municipal Corporation’s decision, stating that a ban on meat and alcohol is mandatory where religious activities take place. He suggested that similar regulations should be enforced at all major religious sites across the country to preserve their sanctity and dignity.
Meanwhile, Mahant Sitaram Das Ji Maharaj of Saket Bhawan Temple expressed to a news agency that this decision, taken with Haridwar’s sanctity in mind ahead of the Ardh Kumbh, is highly commendable. He remarked that the land of Haridwar has been sacred for centuries, enriched by devotion, knowledge, and renunciation, where saints gather. Thus, the municipal corporation’s action will further strengthen religious faith. He also called for a complete ban on meat and alcohol to maintain purity in all pilgrimage towns in India, urging the government to enforce strict laws in light of attempts to undermine Sanatan culture.
Arya Saint Varun Das Ji Maharaj welcomed the decision, congratulating the Haridwar Municipal Corporation. He highlighted the importance and timeliness of this initiative in light of the upcoming Ardh Kumbh Mela. He noted that just as Ayodhya is one of the seven sacred cities, Haridwar holds special religious significance, making the preservation of its sanctity crucial.
