Lucknow, February 17: Avinash Pandey, the Congress in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, stated that despite heavy police presence and administrative strictness, party workers will not back down. They remain committed to fighting for workers’ rights.
For the past 40 days, efforts have been made across the state through meetings and protests to draw attention to the government’s actions. According to Pandey, recent changes to the MGNREGA have stripped workers of their rights. This movement aims to restore those rights and will continue until workers receive what they are entitled to.
He noted that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi have already voiced their opposition to this issue in detail. Pandey accused the government of conspiring to dismantle the law designed to empower workers, a move that Congress will not allow to succeed.
Meanwhile, in Lucknow, police closely monitored Congress workers to prevent them from reaching the assembly. Security was heightened outside the homes of several leaders, with police forces deployed at various locations.
Pandey harshly criticized the administration’s actions, stating that they reflect the government’s oppressive mindset. He remarked that, similar to colonial times, police have turned Congress leaders’ homes into fortresses, a situation the party vehemently condemns.
He warned that to strengthen democracy, the government must listen to the opposition. Otherwise, a government that ignores the rights of the people will be ousted from power.
