Attempted Shooting on Farooq Abdullah in Jammu: Omar Abdullah Expresses Gratitude for Support

Jammu, March 13: Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, shared updates regarding his father, former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah’s health, expressing gratitude for the public’s well-wishes.

In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, Omar Abdullah stated that his father is very pleased with the messages of support, good wishes, and prayers he received. He mentioned that Farooq Abdullah is deeply appreciative of all the tweets, posts, and messages.

Omar further noted, “Unfortunately, he cannot respond to all of them individually. He has asked me to post this on his behalf. My entire family and I stand with him in thanking you all.”

This expression of gratitude comes in the wake of a shooting incident involving Farooq Abdullah during a private event in Jammu, which has raised concerns among National Conference leaders.

On Wednesday evening, a man attempted to attack National Conference President Farooq Abdullah while he was attending an event, where Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chaudhary was also present. The suspect is currently in police custody.

Earlier, Omar Abdullah revealed that the assassination attempt on his father was thwarted due to the swift action of the close protection team assigned under his Z+ security cover.

He posted on X, “Allah is merciful. My father narrowly escaped. The details are still unclear, but it has been reported that a man with a loaded pistol managed to fire at point-blank range. It was only the close protection team that prevented the bullet from hitting him and ensured the assassination attempt failed.”

Omar also expressed concerns regarding the security breach, questioning how the suspect managed to get so close to a leader with such high-level security.

He added, “At this time, there are more questions than answers, including how someone could get so close to a former Chief Minister with Z+ NSG security.”
