Deir al-Balah, August 2 (H.S.) — At least 18 Palestinians were killed on Saturday in Israeli strikes across Gaza, with eight of them reportedly dying while searching for food, local health officials confirmed. With severe shortages of humanitarian aid and growing barriers to ground relief access, desperate civilians continue to risk their lives to reach distribution centres.

The incident occurred near a distribution point run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Yahya Yousuf, one of the civilians at the site, recounted seeing several wounded people and bodies soaked in blood after attempting to help three injured individuals. “This has become a daily tragedy,” he said.
The GHF stated that its security personnel only used pepper spray and fired warning shots to manage the crowd. The Israeli army, too, claimed that only warning shots were fired. Both sides, however, accused each other of exaggerating the death toll.
Israeli military chief Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi (note: Hindi text named him as Eyal Zamir, may refer to either Halevi or another officer) warned that the military campaign would continue without pause if hostages are not released. He indicated that the Israeli army may alter its strategy to increase pressure on Hamas.
This latest violence comes a day after US Ambassador Mike Huckabee visited a GHF relief centre and described the aid efforts as “remarkable.” Nevertheless, international frustration is mounting as relief operations for starving civilians in Gaza become increasingly entangled in violence and political tensions.
According to a recent UN report, between May 27 and July 31, at least 859 people were killed near GHF centres, while hundreds more died along the routes of food convoys.
