Guwahati, August 18: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled an AI-based roadmap for the state’s school education system on Tuesday. He emphasized that AI will play a crucial role in making classrooms smarter, more inclusive, and student-centered in the future.
In a post on the social media platform X, CM Sarma stated that the state is working towards developing future-ready classrooms. With the help of AI, early identification of students’ academic shortcomings will be possible, teachers will receive support, and timely academic assistance will be ensured for students.
“The future of education is intelligent, inclusive, and student-centered,” the Chief Minister remarked. He noted that AI could help create classrooms capable of identifying learning deficiencies at an early stage and pinpointing students at risk of dropping out.
According to the roadmap shared by CM Sarma, there are plans to introduce AI-based attendance and student-tracking systems in Assam’s schools. This will aid authorities in monitoring student participation and identifying early signs of children disengaging from education.
The state government also plans to utilize AI-based tools to assist teachers. These tools will help in lesson planning and make classroom teaching more effective.
CM Sarma mentioned that an AI-based reading fluency assessment system will strengthen basic education. This system will evaluate students’ reading abilities and identify areas where additional support is needed.
As part of the proposed plan, AI chatbots will be used for periodic assessments of students. This will provide a new technology-based system for evaluating students’ academic progress.
Sarma stated that the initiative aims not only to introduce new technology in schools but also to equip teachers and students with tools that can enhance learning outcomes.
“AI will help us create classrooms that identify learning deficiencies early, pinpoint students at risk of dropping out, strengthen basic education, provide better tools for teachers, and equip every child with the confidence and skills to thrive in a rapidly changing world,” he added.
The Assam government is continuously focusing on improving the quality of school education, strengthening basic education, and emphasizing the use of technology for monitoring and support. This AI-based initiative is being launched in line with that direction.
Under this plan, AI will be utilized in various aspects of school education, including attendance, student tracking, assessment, reading proficiency, and teacher support. This will enable a more data-driven education system and assist in identifying and addressing students’ learning challenges.
