Silchar, April 1: In a significant operation against drug trafficking, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Cachar district police, seized heroin valued at ₹7 crore in southern Assam.
A police officer from Cachar district reported that the operation was initiated based on credible intelligence regarding drug movement in the area. The district shares borders with the states of Mizoram and Manipur.
Acting swiftly on the information, the joint team intercepted two suspected drug peddlers near Khandi on Tuesday night. A thorough search led to the recovery of a substantial quantity of heroin. Both individuals involved in the trafficking were apprehended at the scene. Authorities also seized a vehicle and two mobile phones from the suspects.
All confiscated items have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation and legal action. The officer added that efforts are ongoing to uncover the larger network behind this trafficking attempt.

Among the most commonly smuggled substances from Myanmar are highly addictive methamphetamine pills, commonly known as ‘yaba’ or ‘party tablets.’ These pills are often referred to as ‘crazy drugs’ and contain a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine. They are completely banned in India.
