The Assam Assembly has established a committee to oversee member facilities, appointing Dr. Habbe Teron as chairperson.

Guwahati, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : The Assam Assembly has officially established a ‘Member Facilities Committee,’ appointing Dr. Habbe Teron as its chairperson. This committee was formed under Section 8(1) of the Assam Assembly Members’ Salary, Allowances, Facilities, and Pension Act, 2018.

In addition to Teron, the committee includes nine other legislators: Manab Deka, Utpal Bora, Suren Phukan, Dr. Mridul Kumar Dutta, Abdus Sobahan Ali Sarkar, Akhil Gogoi, Maneshwar Brahma, Jibesh Roy, and Mohammad Badaruddin Ajmal.

According to Rule 198(1) of the Assam Assembly’s operational procedures, the chairperson has the authority to appoint members to this committee. The committee’s term will last one year from October 22, 2026, or until a new committee is formed as per the established rules. The notification was signed by Assembly Secretary Rajiv Bhattacharya.

The committee’s creation falls under the legislative framework governing the salaries, allowances, facilities, and pensions of Assam Assembly members. Its scope encompasses issues related to the facilities and conveniences provided to legislators under applicable provisions.

Dr. Teron represents the Amri Assembly constituency located in the state’s hilly regions and currently serves as the Vice President of the Assam Assembly. The inclusion of legislators from diverse political backgrounds, such as Akhil Gogoi and Mohammad Badaruddin Ajmal, reflects a collaborative approach to the committee’s formation.

This notification formally establishes the committee, clarifying its leadership, membership, and term, thereby creating an institutional framework for its operations under the relevant regulations. The Assam Assembly Secretariat issued this notification as part of the committee’s formation under existing legal provisions regarding member facilities and conveniences.

The committee is expected to function for the designated period unless a new committee is established sooner according to the rules.
