Jaipur, April 5: Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot raised concerns on Saturday regarding the delays in the multi-level parking project in Jodhpur. He criticized the state government, labeling the situation as a reflection of the BJP government’s “policy of delay and neglect.”
In a post on his digital channel ‘Intzaar Shastra’ on X, Gehlot stated that this project on New Road in Jodhpur has become a symbol of ineffective governance. He emphasized that a project that should have been completed years ago is now stalled due to the BJP’s short-sightedness. This serves as a living example of the “Intzaar Shastra.”
The parking project was conceived to streamline traffic and provide parking facilities in the area. Initiated in 2013, it was designed to accommodate 675 vehicles, with approximately 2,317 square meters of land earmarked for it and a budget of 280 million rupees allocated for its implementation. As the land was part of the police control room premises, plans for a new police control room building were also included.
Gehlot accused the BJP government of deliberately stalling this vital public project for five years after coming to power in 2013, ignoring the needs of Jodhpur’s residents. Referring to the Congress tenure, he mentioned that they revived the project in 2018. Despite unprecedented disruptions due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-21, they resumed work in 2022 with full commitment.
Targeting the current government, he noted that the project was supposed to be completed by December 2024. However, the BJP is now using a lack of funds as an excuse to halt the remaining work, pushing the deadline to 2026. Given the current status, it seems unlikely that the project will be completed on time.
