Surat, March 21: Arya Desai from Gujarat has etched his name in T20 cricket history. He scored an impressive 193 runs off just 81 balls during the Surat Cricket T20 League. This tournament is recognized by the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA). Desai’s innings is now regarded as the highest individual score in T20 cricket.
The 22-year-old’s remarkable performance has created a buzz on social media. Numerous local accounts and the official Instagram handle of the GCA have hailed this as the highest score ever in a T20 match. Anil Patel, the secretary of the GCA, confirmed this achievement.
Having represented Gujarat in prestigious tournaments like the Ranji Trophy and the Duleep Trophy, Arya Desai left a lasting impression with his batting in the Surat Cricket T20 League. During his explosive innings, he hit 21 fours and 14 sixes. This is the sixth edition of the league, featuring top potential players from all age groups across every district in the state.
Desai is a former player for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and regularly participates in camps at the National Cricket Academy. He is known for his consistency, class, and confidence at the state level. Anil Patel shared insights about Arya Desai’s journey as a cricketer.
Patel stated over the phone, “I have never seen anyone hit the ball like Arya did. This innings came in a tournament recognized by the Surat District Cricket Association and the Gujarat Cricket Association. All potential players from the 11 districts of Gujarat are participating in this tournament.”
He added that this is the sixth season of the tournament, which has also been hosting a women’s tournament in the same format for the past three seasons.
Patel mentioned that all under-19, under-23, and senior players from the state are representing different teams in this tournament held in Surat. Speaking about Arya Desai, Patel remarked, “He was part of the KKR team in the IPL and is a very promising player. He scored over 500 runs in the last Ranji Trophy season and performed well in both white-ball tournaments. He was recently selected for the Duleep Trophy team and also made it to India’s under-23 team for the Emerging Players tournament. Overall, we have high hopes for his future.”
