Arunachal Pradesh Launches Digital Census Campaign Ahead of 2027

Itanagar, April 16: Officials have announced that Arunachal Pradesh has become another northeastern state to initiate preparations for India’s 2027 census. This process officially commenced on Thursday.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein actively participated in the process from Itanagar and Namsai, respectively.

In a social media post, the Chief Minister stated, “I took part in the self-enumeration phase of the house listing and housing census under the 2027 census, completing my self-enumeration digitally for the first time through geo-tagging and digital mapping.”

He noted that the self-enumeration phase will be open from April 16 to April 30, 2026, allowing every household to participate digitally and submit accurate information.

Khandu further mentioned that following this phase, field operations for house listing and housing census will occur from May 1 to May 30, 2026, during which appointed enumerators will visit homes to collect data.

The Chief Minister urged every household to actively participate during the self-enumeration phase and to fully cooperate with enumerators during their field visits. “Please ensure that your information is complete and accurate,” he emphasized.

Deputy Chief Minister Mein posted on his official ‘X’ account, stating, “As the self-enumeration phase of the 2027 census begins statewide in Arunachal Pradesh today, I participated from my residence in Namsai, completing my enumeration digitally through geo-tagging and mapping for the first time.”

He described the 2027 census as a significant national process that supports development planning through reliable data and enhances public service delivery.

Mein reiterated that the self-enumeration phase will continue from April 16 to April 30, 2026, followed by field visits by enumerators from May 1 to May 30, 2026.

He appealed to all households to actively participate and support the census officials. “Providing accurate information will significantly contribute to better planning and inclusive development for our state,” he stated.

Mein also mentioned that he completed the process in the presence of Namsai’s Deputy Commissioner and Chief Census Officer C.R. Khampa, Joint Director of Census (DCO Shillong) Utpal Sharma, and other officials and census personnel.

“Let us all come together to fulfill this important national responsibility,” he urged. Earlier in the day, in Mizoram, Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) formally launched the house-to-house listing and housing census tasks at the Lok Bhavan in Aizawl.

The Governor appealed to the staff involved in the census work to perform their duties with dedication and integrity, ensuring that no household is overlooked.

He emphasized the importance of clearly explaining the process to those who may find it difficult to understand, ensuring that every individual and household is accurately counted.

Describing this initiative as India’s first digital census, General Singh expressed confidence in its success and urged the public to fully support the census officials and enumerators.
