Cupertino, November 4 (Daily Kiran): Apple has confirmed that its much-anticipated Live Translation feature for AirPods will finally roll out in the European Union in December 2025, following a short delay to ensure compliance with the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Originally announced in September alongside the AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4 with ANC, and AirPods Pro 2, the feature allows real-time language translation when the compatible AirPods are paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone running iOS 26 or later.

Expanded Language Support

At launch, Live Translation supported English (UK and US), French, German, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish. With the upcoming EU rollout, Apple has expanded the list to include Italian, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional Mandarin), Japanese, and Korean, making it more accessible to global users.

How Live Translation Works

The feature offers instant translation and transcription directly through AirPods. When two users speaking different languages use AirPods with Live Translation, Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) intelligently minimizes background sounds, including the other speaker’s original voice, allowing listeners to focus on the translated audio while maintaining a natural conversation flow.

For interactions where only one person is using AirPods, users can view real-time translated text on their iPhone screen. The feature is also integrated across Apple’s ecosystem, including Messages, FaceTime, and the Phone app, ensuring “seamless translation” whether typing or speaking.

Privacy and On-Device Processing

Apple highlighted that all Live Translation processing happens entirely on-device, safeguarding user privacy and preventing any cloud-based data transmission.

The addition of Live Translation to the EU marks another step in Apple’s global AI rollout strategy, aiming to make communication more inclusive and borderless while maintaining its strong stance on privacy and data protection.
