Apple Boosts Production in India by 53%, Exceeds a Quarter of Global iPhone Output

New Delhi, March 10: The American tech giant Apple has increased its production in India by approximately 53% in 2025, assembling around 5.5 million units compared to 3.6 million units the previous year, according to reports.

A Bloomberg report indicates that Apple is manufacturing about a quarter of its flagship products in India to avoid tariffs on Chinese goods in the U.S.

The report also states that Apple produces around 220-230 million iPhones globally each year, with India’s contribution rapidly growing. This increase is attributed to incentives provided under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme by the government.

The PLI incentives have helped address structural cost issues, such as weaker supply chains and logistical challenges, compared to China.

Apple now manufactures all models of the iPhone 17 series, including the Pro and Pro Max models, through suppliers like Foxconn Technology Group, Tata Electronics, and Pegatron Corp in India. Older models, such as the iPhone 15 and 16, are also being produced locally for domestic sales and exports.

With sales surpassing $9 billion, Apple is expanding its retail network in India, now boasting six stores. The company is also preparing to launch Apple Pay in India by the end of this year.

According to industry data, the iPhone has become the most valuable export item from India in 2025. Apple exported approximately $23 billion worth of iPhones from its plants in the country, with the majority sent to the U.S.

For the January-December period, smartphones reached a record export value of $30.13 billion, marking the first time they became India’s top export category. Apple accounted for 76% of total smartphone exports.
