Kolkata, April 21: BJP MP Anurag Thakur has voiced strong support for Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement regarding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in West Bengal. He assured that once the BJP forms the government in Bengal, UCC will be enacted, calling it a guarantee from Prime Minister Modi.
In a conversation in Kolkata, Thakur criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government, stating that after 15 years in power, the TMC has left Bengal plagued by corruption, unemployment, and migration.
He claimed that on May 4, the people of Bengal would liberate themselves from the TMC, realizing the dream of a ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal).
Thakur pointed out that Banerjee has no accountability for her 15 years in office, leading her to spread fear and confusion among the public. He accused her of trying to intimidate citizens, reflecting her own fears and uncertainties.
He alleged that the TMC government has failed to curb corruption, provide jobs for the youth, and has forced many to migrate. He noted that each Bengali is burdened with a debt of ₹77,200, and families carry an average debt of around ₹3 lakh. With no answers to these issues, he claimed that CM Mamata Banerjee has become a “machine of lies.”
Thakur defined TMC as synonymous with terror, murder, and corruption. He expressed confidence that on May 4, the public would be free from these three issues, allowing the lotus to bloom and the dream of a ‘Sonar Bangla’ to come true.
He highlighted the atmosphere of fear and corruption in Bengal, which he believes is stifling investment and causing a brain drain among the youth. Citing statistics, he revealed that 6,688 industries have shut down, and 110 listed companies have closed. Over the past decade, 3 million jobs in the informal sector have disappeared, with 2.3 million people registered as unemployed. He emphasized that these figures are not his, but from the state government itself.
Thakur remarked that while the NDA governs in 20 states without restrictions on speech, food, or worship, CM Mamata Banerjee has no achievements to show for her 15 years in power, leading her to spread fear, confusion, and rumors.
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP Harsh Vardhan Shringla expressed his love for fish, mentioning various types he enjoys. He lamented the lack of a significant fish farming industry in Bengal, despite its abundant water resources. He noted that when he buys fish in Siliguri, it often comes from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, or Gujarat, questioning the absence of local fish. He criticized the TMC for neglecting the development of fish farming and farmers.
Shringla expressed optimism that a BJP government would invest heavily in the fisheries sector, hoping that the next time they enjoy fish, it will be sourced from Bengal.
