Anant Singh Granted Bail in Dular Chand Yadav Murder Case

Patna, March 19: Anant Singh, the influential legislator from Mokama, has been granted bail by the Patna High Court in the Dular Chand Yadav murder case. Following the completion of legal proceedings, Singh is expected to be released from jail soon. During the Rajya Sabha elections, he had cast his vote from prison, asserting that he would be out shortly. He also mentioned that he would not contest future elections, as his children would take over his political responsibilities.

Currently, Singh is incarcerated in Beur Jail, Patna. Dular Chand Yadav, a supporter of the Jan Suraj Party, was murdered during the election campaign in October 2025, with Singh being named as a suspect. He was arrested in connection with Yadav’s murder during the Bihar Assembly elections but managed to win while still in custody. His bail applications were previously denied by lower courts, prompting him to appeal to the Patna High Court, which approved his bail on Thursday.

On March 16, 2026, voting took place for five Rajya Sabha seats in Bihar, where Singh voted for the JD(U) candidate Nitish Kumar from jail. After the voting, he informed the media that he would not run for any future elections, stating that his eldest son would assume his political duties. He also expressed confidence about his imminent release from jail.

Anant Singh had previously been granted temporary release from jail before the Rajya Sabha elections. After taking the oath of office in the Bihar Assembly, he sought blessings from Chief Minister Nitish Kumar by touching his feet, an act permitted by the Patna Civil Court.
