
Wellington, March 22: New Zealand’s Amelia Kerr has achieved a remarkable milestone by setting a world record. She has become the first cricketer, male or female, to score over 30 runs in ten consecutive T20 International matches. This achievement was highlighted during the fourth T20 International against South Africa, where New Zealand secured a 3-1 lead in the five-match series.
In the match held in Wellington, Kerr scored 31 runs off 29 balls, continuing her impressive streak. Earlier, she also took one wicket for 32 runs in four overs, helping New Zealand restrict South Africa to a score of 159.
Kerr’s all-round performance was pivotal in leading New Zealand to a six-wicket victory. The 25-year-old has now set a new world record by scoring 30 or more runs in ten consecutive T20 International innings, surpassing the previous record held jointly by Sri Lanka’s Chamari Athapaththu and Romania’s Rebecca Blake.
Throughout the series, Kerr has consistently contributed with the bat. Her scoring streak began in 2024 against South Africa, where she made 43 runs off 38 balls. In 2025, she scored an unbeaten 51 runs off 46 balls against Australia, followed by 40 runs off 36 balls and 66 runs off 47 balls in the same series. In 2026, she delivered a career-defining innings against Zimbabwe, scoring an unbeaten 101 runs off 51 balls.
Kerr maintained her dominance with 82 runs off 52 balls against Zimbabwe before facing South Africa in the current series. She scored 78 runs off 44 balls, 32 runs off 18 balls, 30 runs off 28 balls, and 31 runs off 29 balls, continuing her streak of scoring over 30 runs in ten consecutive innings. In these ten innings across 11 matches, Kerr has amassed a total of 554 runs at an impressive strike rate of 142.
In addition to her batting prowess, Kerr has also excelled with the ball, taking 12 wickets at an economy rate of 6.74, further solidifying her status as a top all-rounder.
In the fourth T20 International, South Africa batted first, scoring 159 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Annerie Dercksen was the standout performer for the Proteas, scoring an unbeaten 55 runs off 32 balls, while Sune Luus contributed 30 runs. However, New Zealand chased down the target in just 18.3 overs, losing only four wickets, with Sophie Devine leading the charge with a powerful 64 runs off 34 balls.
