Ajmer Jail Warden Arrested for Illegally Releasing Inmates

Ajmer, October 7 (Daily Kiran) : Rajasthan police have arrested Divya Chaudhary, a former warden of the Ajmer Women’s Correctional Home, for allegedly taking two female inmates out of the facility without authorization. The arrest occurred on October 6, following a police investigation into the incident, which took place on July 12, 2026.

Superintendent of Police Harshvardhan Agarwal reported that Chaudhary is accused of misusing her position and intimidating prison security personnel in collaboration with a colleague. Among the inmates involved, one was serving a life sentence, while the other was a pre-trial detainee.

According to police, Chaudhary, a resident of Bhilwara, allegedly conspired with female guard Sonia Chaudhary to bypass objections from staff at the main entrance. They reportedly threatened on-duty security guards and escorted the inmates, Kiran alias Setha and Sana, out of the jail.

Following the incident, it is alleged that Chaudhary took the inmates to her private residence in the ARG City area for personal gain. A complaint was filed by guard Mahipal Mangloda at the Civil Lines police station on August 5, leading to the registration of a case.

After the FIR was lodged, Chaudhary reportedly fled her headquarters to evade arrest. The police launched a manhunt, utilizing CCTV footage, technical evidence, government records, and assistance from the cyber cell.

On October 6, a special team from the Ajmer police raided an apartment in Kota district and apprehended the 37-year-old warden. The investigation is now being overseen by Additional Superintendent of Police Himanshu Jangid and Circle Officer Shivam Joshi, with a dedicated team led by Civil Lines Station Officer Shambhu Singh.

Authorities are currently conducting thorough interrogations of the arrested warden and investigating the roles of any potential accomplices, as well as the motives behind the release of the two inmates.
