Pune, July 31: National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will be honored with the prestigious ‘Lokmanya Tilak National Award 2026’ for his significant contributions to national security and service to the country. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will present the award at a ceremony in Pune on August 1.
The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at Maharashtra Mandal Ground, Gultekdi, Pune, at 11:15 AM on Saturday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Sunetra Pawar will also be in attendance. At 81 years old, Ajit Doval is India’s longest-serving National Security Advisor and continues to hold the position.
Throughout his extensive career, Doval has worked in sensitive areas such as Mizoram, Sikkim, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. He has also played a crucial role in Indian missions in Islamabad and London. Doval has served as India’s special representative for India-China border talks and was particularly praised for his diplomatic efforts in resolving the 2017 Doklam standoff. He is being honored for his strategic decisions in national security and counter-terrorism operations.
The Lokmanya Tilak Award was established in 1983 by Maharashtra Mandal, Pune. It is awarded annually on August 1, the death anniversary of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak, to individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the nation’s progress, development, and social upliftment. The first recipient was socialist leader S.M. Joshi.
Over the years, the award has been conferred upon several distinguished personalities, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Ministers Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Manmohan Singh, and Indira Gandhi, as well as former President Pranab Mukherjee and senior NCP leader Sharad Pawar.
Organizers of the event have stated that this year, Ajit Doval was selected for his contributions to national security, counter-terrorism, and strengthening the unity and integrity of the nation. Home Minister Amit Shah will be the chief guest at the ceremony and will personally honor Doval. Senior ministers from the Maharashtra government and other dignitaries will also participate in the event.
