New Delhi, March 17: Air India announced on Tuesday that it will operate 36 additional flights to Europe and North America due to increased demand for international travel amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
These flights are scheduled from early this week through the end of next week. Starting March 19 and continuing until March 28, Air India will connect Delhi and Mumbai with major destinations such as London (Heathrow), Toronto, Frankfurt, and Zurich.
According to the airline, this initiative will add over 10,000 seats on these routes, enhancing capacity and providing more travel options during a time when international connectivity has become quite limited.
The additional flights will serve routes including Delhi-London (Heathrow), Mumbai-London (Heathrow), Delhi-Frankfurt, Delhi-Zurich, and Delhi-Toronto.
Earlier, in response to demand, Air India had announced the operation of 78 extra flights between March 10 and March 18.
Bookings for these flights are gradually being made available through the airline’s official website, mobile app, and authorized travel agents.
Air India stated that this capacity increase aims to assist passengers amid changing geopolitical conditions affecting travel demand and route availability.
Previously, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) granted Air India a temporary exemption from flight fare regulations for long-haul flights to Europe, the US, and Canada, as airspace restrictions due to the Iran conflict forced the airline to reroute, impacting operations and passenger movement.
Meanwhile, IndiGo announced last week that it will operate 252 weekly flights between March 16 and March 28 for routes to and from West Asia. This includes approximately 126 weekly flights from Saudi Arabia, 98 from the United Arab Emirates, and 28 from Oman.
However, IndiGo noted that operations to several destinations in the region—such as Doha, Kuwait, Bahrain, Dammam, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Sharjah—will remain suspended under temporary network adjustments until March 28.
