
New Delhi, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Air Force Marathon 2026 took place across the nation on Sunday, October 4, attracting a large number of participants in Delhi, Mumbai, and Jodhpur. The event aimed to showcase the speed, endurance, and spirit of unity among citizens, inspired by the valor of the air warriors.
In New Delhi, the marathon’s second edition was held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, featuring a half marathon, a 10-kilometer run, and a 5-kilometer run. Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, the Chief of the Indian Air Force, flagged off all races. The 10-kilometer run commenced from the stadium, while the 5-kilometer race was initiated by female officers of the Air Force.
Maharashtra also hosted the Air Force Marathon 2026, which included the start of a 10-kilometer race.
Rajinder Singh, a 74-year-old retired Navy officer, shared his experience, stating, “Today, I am completing my 149th marathon. I have run across India. As a retired officer from the Indian Navy, I participated in both wars against Pakistan. I was in Kerala in 1971 and at the Goa Naval Airport during Kargil. I continue to run.”
In Jodhpur, Rajasthan, the marathon kicked off from the Barkatullah Khan Stadium, with enthusiastic participation from Air Force personnel and a large number of runners. The marathon route passed through various major roads in the city.
Throughout the event, there was a notable enthusiasm among the Indian Air Force personnel, who participated actively. The first segments of the marathon included both the 21-kilometer and 10-kilometer races, along with the 5-kilometer run. The event conveyed messages of patriotism and fitness.
This year’s marathon was organized in memory of Flying Officer Nirmal Jeet Singh Sekhon, a recipient of the Param Vir Chakra, honoring his legacy. The marathon aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle, fitness, and a connection with the Indian Air Force among the youth and the general public.
