AIADMK Forms Special Committee for Seat Sharing Ahead of Tamil Nadu Elections

Chennai, March 16: The AIADMK, led by E. Palaniswami, has initiated the process of finalizing its electoral alliance strategy for the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections. A special committee has been formed to negotiate seat-sharing arrangements with its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Tamil Nadu elections will take place on April 23.

The party leadership has established a four-member committee, which includes senior leaders and former ministers K.P. Munusamy, Natham R. Vishwanathan, S.P. Velumani, and B. Valarmathi.

This panel is authorized to represent the AIADMK in discussions with allied parties and work towards finalizing the distribution of assembly constituencies among coalition partners.

According to party sources, the committee will soon begin formal consultations with major NDA allies in the state, including the BJP, Tamil Manila Congress (TMC), Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), and Puratchi Bharatham.

The discussions will focus on the number of seats each party will contest and the constituencies allocated to them. The formation of this committee comes immediately after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, prompting political parties to accelerate their preparations.

AIADMK leaders have indicated that discussions with alliance partners will be conducted in phases before announcing the final seat-sharing formula.

Uncertainty remains regarding the potential participation of the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), led by TTV Dhinakaran, in the seat-sharing talks.

There is widespread expectation that the NDA alliance will intensify negotiations in the coming days to reach a mutual agreement.

Political analysts suggest that multiple rounds of discussions may be necessary, as parties are making claims for favorable constituencies and larger shares of seats.

The nomination process is set to begin at the end of this month, and the AIADMK leadership is eager to complete the seat-sharing process as quickly as possible.

Once the coalition formula is established, attention is expected to shift towards announcing candidates and launching a comprehensive campaign for the assembly elections.
