AI Services Expected to Create $100-200 Billion Opportunities by 2030, Report Says
A recent report forecasts that AI services could generate $100-200 billion in new business opportunities by 2030, driven by talent in tech companies.

New Delhi, October 29 (Daily Kiran) : A new report from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) predicts that artificial intelligence (AI) services could generate between $100 billion and $200 billion in new business opportunities by 2030. The report, released on October 29, highlights that a significant portion of the necessary talent is already present within technology services companies.
According to the findings, AI services are expected to contribute $300 billion to $400 billion to industry growth by 2030. However, the report also warns of a potential decline of around $200 billion in existing revenue contracts, leaving a net opportunity range of $100 billion to $200 billion.
The key challenge identified is not the availability of talent, but rather the effective deployment of that talent in appropriate roles. Currently, only 10 to 15 percent of AI-related employees in technology services companies work in applied AI, compared to 90 to 95 percent in dedicated AI firms. The remaining 85 to 90 percent of employees in technology services are involved in infused AI, where they utilize AI to enhance existing processes.
The report suggests that the anticipated industry growth will stem from the development and operation of agentic solutions. As agentic tools evolve, outsourcing such tasks will become increasingly feasible.
The global services market is projected to grow from approximately $1.6 trillion to $1.7 trillion in 2025 to between $2.2 trillion and $2.4 trillion by 2030.
Sreisha George, BCG’s Managing Director and Partner, noted that companies already have a substantial number of employees capable of working in applied AI. She emphasized a shift in client payment models, moving from hourly rates to results-based compensation, which alters how companies deploy staff and structure remuneration.
The report identifies 40 distinct roles related to applied AI, each linked to existing positions in the tech sector. For instance, a data scientist or full-stack developer could transition into a forward-deployed engineer, while a DevOps engineer might evolve into an AI Ops engineer or a semantic data engineer.
Additionally, the report indicates that preparing a data scientist for a forward-deployed engineer role requires nearly three times the skill development compared to transitioning a data engineer into an AI data engineer role.
