Ahmedabad Police Destroys ₹4.19 Crore Worth of Seized Alcohol

Ahmedabad, May 11: The Ahmedabad rural police have destroyed 93,426 bottles of foreign liquor and beer cans worth ₹4.19 crore. This action was taken in connection with various prohibition cases registered at the Dhandhuka, Dholka, and Bagodara police stations. Officials announced this on Sunday.

The destruction operation took place after receiving court approval. It was conducted at the Dhandhuka municipal solid waste disposal center and MRF center along the Dhandhuka-Barwala road, running from 9 AM to 1:30 PM.

According to officials, these liquor and beer consignments were seized during various prohibition cases recorded in 2025 and 2026 under the jurisdiction of the Ahmedabad rural police’s Dhandhuka division.

This operation was overseen by Deputy Superintendent of Police Aastha Rana, in accordance with directives related to the disposal of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) seized in prohibition cases.

During the destruction process, Assistant Collector Vidya Sagar, Dholka’s Deputy Collector Joshi, excise department officials, police personnel, and Panch witnesses were present. Officials confirmed that the entire procedure was carried out in compliance with legal regulations.

This action comes amid ongoing campaigns to enforce prohibition in Ahmedabad district and other parts of Gujarat.

Earlier this year, the Gujarat government presented figures in the state assembly indicating that law enforcement agencies in Ahmedabad seized ₹10.71 crore worth of IMFL and narcotics valued at ₹3.87 crore during 2025.

In a recent campaign ahead of local body elections, the Ahmedabad rural police reported seizing approximately ₹97 lakh worth of 16,976 bottles of IMFL and over ₹10 lakh worth of local liquor between April 1 and April 25. Additionally, 870 cases related to prohibition were registered.

Officials have also reported several significant actions related to prohibition in recent months, including the seizure of liquor consignments allegedly smuggled into Gujarat via interstate supply networks connected to transport vehicles and illegal sales.
