Rehan Ahmed, associated with Taj Handicrafts, emphasized that their craft has been passed down through generations. Family artisans use traditional techniques to create a variety of handicraft items. Typically, two artisans collaborate on a single piece, which can take anywhere from one to one and a half months to complete, depending on the design intricacies.
According to Ahmed, materials and techniques such as nakshi, tapka, and kora are integral to this traditional craft. One of the highlighted products at the trade show is a copper item that receives a gold plating, giving it a distinctive shine and appeal. The meticulous finishing and design attract onlookers, with the jewel carpet being a key product. This unique carpet is distinguished by its intricate design and craftsmanship.
The jewel carpet serves to connect two carpets together, requiring considerable time and patience from the artisans for its detailed design. It takes two artisans a significant amount of time to create just one meter of this carpet. The emphasis on finishing and design ensures that each piece reflects the artisan’s hard work and unique identity.
Ahmed noted that platforms like the UP International Trade Show provide local artisans with opportunities to reach new buyers and markets. This not only helps preserve traditional skills but also engages the younger generation with their cultural heritage.
