Bhubaneswar, August 14: Karan Adani, Executive Director of the Adani Group, met with Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, on Thursday at Kharavel Bhawan. The discussion focused on investment opportunities in the state’s renewable energy sector and strengthening infrastructure related to clean energy.
Present at the meeting were Vishal Kumar Dev, Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department, Jyoti Sharma, CMD of Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL), Satyapriya Rath, Managing Director of GRIDCO, and senior officials from the Energy Department.
The meeting explored various areas of investment and projects related to clean energy, including pumped storage plants (PSP), solar energy production, and nuclear energy projects. Emphasis was placed on the state’s long-term energy security, the reliability of the power grid, and enhancing sustainable power capacity.
The Adani Group reiterated its interest in investing in Odisha’s clean energy sector, proposing the establishment of two power plants with a combined capacity of 3,000 megawatts. The need for reliable and carbon-free baseload power to meet the growing energy demands of the state was also highlighted.
Additionally, the Adani Group invited the Deputy Chief Minister to visit its renewable energy projects in other states of the country.
A day earlier, Karan Adani led a delegation that met with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The delegation informed the Chief Minister about a proposed titanium plant in Srikakulam district, which involves an investment of ₹16,000 crores from the Adani Group.
During the meeting at the state secretariat, the delegation provided insights on beach sand mining, the products that can be derived from these minerals, their applications across various sectors, and market demand.
Representatives from the Adani Group explained that ilmenite available in beach sand can be processed into titanium slag, titanium dioxide, and titanium sponge through value addition. Titanium dioxide is used in several industries, including paints, coatings, cosmetics, plastics, and UV-protection products.
The delegation also informed the Chief Minister that the project would include initiatives for skill development, the establishment of Adani University, an international school, a 1,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir hospital in Visakhapatnam, and a 150-seat medical college.
These proposed projects by the Adani Group in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh highlight investment opportunities in energy, mineral processing, education, health, and skill development sectors.
