Mumbai, May 15: Actress Ankita Bhargav has taken to social media to alert the public about a concerning scam attempt involving her parents. She specifically urged people, especially the elderly, to remain vigilant.
In her Instagram post, Ankita recounted that when she arrived at her parents’ house during lunch yesterday, she found two strangers comfortably seated at the dining table. They claimed to be officials from the Gujarat Crime Branch, investigating a former neighbor. They asked Ankita’s father for a brief statement.
She wrote, “Initially, everything seemed normal. They were calm, polite, and confident. When I requested to see their ID cards, they showed them without hesitation and even said I could take photos.”
Ankita further explained that the two men were attempting to get her father to sign a handwritten document in Gujarati, a language he could not read. When she questioned this, one of them casually offered to translate. Trusting her instincts, Ankita firmly declined. She stated, “I asked why the official statement was handwritten. Why was it in Gujarati when my father couldn’t read it? I made it clear that no one in this house would sign any document without understanding it first.”
Later, her father admitted that if Ankita hadn’t arrived on time, he might have signed the document, as the men appeared very trustworthy. This revelation deeply unsettled Ankita. She warned, “Elderly individuals can be easily misled. They are pressured into signing documents with uniforms, ID cards, and official language.”
She advised never to sign any handwritten documents in a language you do not understand. Always request typed and clear documents. Verify with the society management or local police, and involve other family members in such matters.
Ankita concluded that while the men might have been genuine officials, their approach was careless. Nonetheless, exercising caution is crucial.
