Mumbai, April 9: Senior leader of the Samajwadi Party, Abu Azmi, has expressed that war should come to an end permanently in light of the recent ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
Commenting on Pakistan’s claims regarding the ceasefire, Azmi stated that if such claims are true, it indicates a failure in India’s foreign policy. However, he emphasized that the war has now ceased and must remain over forever. “There should be no war anywhere. This is our prayer,” he added.
Azmi welcomed the ceasefire, noting it would help calm the global turmoil. He also addressed the alleged shortage of oil and gas during the conflict, mentioning that many hotels have closed and people are leaving their jobs to return home. He expressed hope that conditions would improve now that the fighting has stopped.
He pointed out that millions of Indians work in the Middle East, contributing 25% to the country’s GDP. “War should end, and discussions should take place at the table. I welcome this decision. It is crucial that solutions are reached through dialogue. I welcome the cessation of hostilities,” he stated.
On the actions taken against 3 million suspected voters in West Bengal, Azmi criticized it as mere electoral politics aimed at weakening the non-BJP voter base. He highlighted that many poor citizens live on the streets and lack essential documents due to insufficient education and housing. “The Election Commission should ensure that any infiltrators are removed. They must also verify how these individuals obtained their Aadhaar and ration cards,” he urged.
