Abhishek Banerjees Z Plus Security Withdrawn by West Bengal Government

Kolkata, May 11: The West Bengal government has decided to withdraw the Z Plus security provided to Abhishek Banerjee. The Trinamool Congress General Secretary and MP will no longer receive the additional security and special pilot car service that he had for over a decade.

Following the change in government in West Bengal, his security began to be reduced. The new state administration has now fully revoked his Z Plus security, with an administrative order issued on Monday afternoon.

Officials have confirmed that not only is Abhishek Banerjee’s additional security being removed, but his pilot car service is also being discontinued.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held several meetings at Nabanna on Monday. He first conducted an administrative review meeting, followed by discussions with district magistrates and senior police officials.

Sources indicate that the meeting addressed issues related to the security of leaders. The Chief Minister conveyed a clear message that unnecessary security would not be provided to leaders who do not face genuine threats. He questioned the expenditure of government funds merely to showcase influence or prestige. Consequently, Abhishek Banerjee’s security classification has been altered.

Previously, he was seen traveling with a pilot car, but following the government’s directive, this service will no longer be available. He will now receive only the standard security typically afforded to an MP.

Administrative sources claim that Abhishek’s security arrangements will now align with the guidelines of the Central Home Ministry. Additional security forces and special amenities will be phased out gradually.

Since the announcement of election results, Abhishek Banerjee’s security has been progressively reduced. During the Trinamool government, heavy police presence surrounded his office, but this security was the first to be withdrawn after the government change.

Following this, security outside his residence on Harish Mukherjee Road was also diminished. Security measures and equipment were removed from his home, ‘Shantiniketan.’

Moreover, the security outside former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence has also been scaled back. Mamata Banerjee lives on Harish Chatterjee Street. Barricades outside her home were removed within 24 hours of the government transition, and Kolkata police subsequently recalled additional security personnel.
