Kolkata, April 20: Abhishek Banerjee, the General Secretary of the Trinamool Congress, accused the BJP on Monday of politicizing the deaths of its workers. He stated that the BJP has failed to fulfill its promise to care for the families of the deceased workers.
While addressing an election rally in Balrampur, Purulia district, Banerjee claimed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had promised jobs to family members of the late BJP workers Trilochan Mahato and Dulal Kumar. He alleged that despite eight years passing, no jobs have been provided.
Banerjee further alleged that when family members attempted to reach out, BJP’s Purulia MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato did not respond to their calls.
In 2018, two BJP workers, Trilochan Mahato and Dulal Kumar, died under unnatural circumstances in Balrampur ahead of the state panchayat elections. This issue has resurfaced once again before another election.
“I remember the unnatural deaths of two BJP workers in Balrampur before the 2018 panchayat elections. The BJP shamelessly started politicizing these deaths, disturbing the peace in Balrampur. The BJP won the Purulia parliamentary seat in 2019 and narrowly secured victory in the Balrampur assembly constituency in 2021. They politicized the deaths and used the bodies for political gain. Amit Shah, the then BJP National President, met the families and promised them a job at the central office. Eight years have passed, yet no job has been provided,” Banerjee stated.
According to the Trinamool Congress leader, if a party forgets its workers after eight years, it cannot serve the public.
Meanwhile, Banerjee also questioned the candidacy of Jaldhar Mahato, fielded by the BJP from the Balrampur constituency.
“I have heard that this time the candidate is a close associate of MP Jyotirmoy Singh Mahato. I have also heard that he tempted Jyotirmoy Mahato with a new car to secure a party ticket. I do not know if this is true. Do the people of Balrampur deserve this? Will you tolerate this insult?” Banerjee asked.
He also criticized the frequent delays of trains like the Howrah-Chakradharpur Express and Purulia Express. He questioned how an MP who cannot ensure timely train services can guarantee basic amenities like water and housing.
