Aaqib Javed Compares Jasprit Bumrah to Pakistans Usman Tariq

Lahore, March 14: Aaqib Javed, the former fast bowler and current selector for Pakistan, has drawn a comparison between India’s Jasprit Bumrah and Pakistan’s spinner Usman Tariq. Javed praised Bumrah, stating that he is akin to the fast bowlers’ Usman Tariq, emphasizing that no batsman can find their rhythm against him.

Bumrah’s performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup was exceptional. He took 14 wickets across eight matches, making him one of the tournament’s leading wicket-takers. Javed highlighted that Bumrah is a bowler who disrupts the batsmen’s flow during matches. In a press conference, he remarked, “Bumrah is a unique bowler. He is not an ordinary bowler.”

Javed further elaborated, “Even his bowling action is distinctive. When he comes to bowl, I always say he is like the Usman Tariq of fast bowlers. He bowls with such speed and in such a unique manner that no batsman can ever settle against him. He simply does not allow that to happen.”

According to Javed, Bumrah holds the same stature as former Pakistani fast bowlers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis did in their prime. He challenged anyone to name another bowler in the ongoing World Cup who can evoke a sense of confidence akin to that of Akram, Younis, or others of their caliber. “You won’t find anyone like that,” he stated.

Currently, the Pakistan team is engaged in an ODI series in Bangladesh. During this time, Javed mentioned that losing to India in major tournaments is no longer a new experience for Pakistan. He noted that matches between India and Pakistan are always significant, but Pakistan has never managed to defeat India in World Cups. Despite numerous encounters, the record remains in favor of India. Javed pointed out that since 1975, many of Pakistan’s best captains and players have faced India. Each generation has tried, but none have succeeded in overcoming India in World Cup matches, resulting in a record of 8-0 in favor of India (8-1 in T20 World Cups).
