AAP Challenges BJP Over Yamuna River Cleanliness Amid Political Tensions
AAP questions BJPs claims on Yamuna cleanliness, urging leaders to take a dip in the polluted river.

New Delhi, October 30 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions are escalating in New Delhi as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) challenges the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the cleanliness of the Yamuna River. AAP leaders have raised doubts about BJP’s assertions, claiming that the river is still heavily polluted with foam and debris.
On a recent visit to the river, AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar shared a video on social media, highlighting the ongoing issues with foam and waste in the Yamuna. He accused the BJP of spraying chemicals to mask the pollution. Kumar issued a bold challenge to BJP MP Manoj Tiwari and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, urging them to take a dip in the river if they truly believe it is clean.
With the Chhath Puja festival approaching in about ten days, Kumar emphasized the importance of the river for the many devotees who gather to perform rituals along its banks. He questioned whether the BJP government would force devotees to enter the polluted waters once again, despite their claims of having cleaned the river.
The AAP has criticized the BJP for its failure to address the ongoing pollution, pointing out that the current state of the Yamuna contradicts the party’s previous statements. Kumar argued that the BJP cannot evade responsibility by claiming it has only been in power for two years, as it was the BJP that initially promised a clean river.
Saurabh Bhardwaj, AAP’s Delhi state president, also targeted BJP leaders, inviting Tiwari and Delhi Minister Pravesh Verma to join him at the Kalindi Kunj ghat for a swim in the Yamuna. He quipped that a swimming competition between Tiwari and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju at the same site would be memorable.
Meanwhile, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha attempted to corner Tiwari by sharing old videos where Tiwari previously described the Yamuna’s water as clean. Jha questioned Tiwari’s credibility, suggesting he should reflect on his past statements regarding the river’s condition.
As the debate over the Yamuna’s cleanliness continues, both parties are keenly aware that public perception and memory play significant roles in political accountability. The AAP is committed to holding the BJP accountable for its promises, especially as the festival season approaches.
