New Delhi, March 12: Amid ongoing tensions in West Asia, the Indian government is actively working to ensure the safe return of its citizens. Approximately 700 Indian nationals have returned from Qatar, while Indian airlines have resumed flights to Riyadh.
According to the latest advisory from the Indian Embassy in Qatar, nearly 700 Indian citizens departed today on two Qatar Airways flights. One flight was headed to Delhi, and the other to Mumbai, with some passengers traveling to other destinations. In the coming days, Qatar Airways is expected to operate one or two flights daily to India.
For Indian citizens wishing to leave Qatar, limited flights with Qatar Airways are available. Additionally, those holding a valid visa for Saudi Arabia can also travel via the Salwa border.
The advisory states that the embassy is assisting Indian nationals who were in Qatar on visit visas in obtaining a temporary 96-hour transit visa for Saudi Arabia. Registration for this service can be done through links provided on the embassy’s social media channels.
The embassy will remain open on Friday and Saturday (March 13-14) to assist with urgent needs, such as passport renewals.
The embassy urges the Indian community to adhere to the advisories issued by Qatari authorities. These advisories indicate that markets across the country are stable and essential goods are available in retail stores. Citizens are advised to behave responsibly, avoid rumors, and refrain from hoarding unnecessary items. Only purchase what is genuinely needed.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) is closely monitoring the air travel situation in West Asia. As of March 12, 2026, Indian airlines have resumed flights to and from Riyadh. On the first day, Air India and IndiGo operated three flights to Mumbai, while Air India Express had one flight to Kozhikode (Calicut). This has restored vital air connectivity between India and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
According to MoCA, a total of 150,457 passengers arrived in India by air from Gulf countries between February 28 and March 11.
Additionally, on March 12, 2026, 57 flights from various cities in West Asia, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah, Jeddah, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah, Riyadh, and Sharjah, are scheduled to arrive in India. However, operations will depend on circumstances and technical conditions.
The ministry is in continuous coordination with airlines and other relevant parties to ensure smooth passenger movement. Airfares are also being monitored to keep ticket prices reasonable and prevent unnecessary hikes during this period.
Passengers are advised to stay in touch with their airlines for the latest flight schedules and travel information. The ministry will continue to review the situation and provide further updates as necessary.
