Dhaka, October 15 (Daily Kiran): At least 16 people have died after a devastating fire broke out in a garment factory and adjoining chemical warehouse in the Mirpur area of Dhaka on Tuesday. Authorities fear the death toll may rise as rescue operations continue.

According to Fire Service Director Tajul Islam Chowdhury, the blaze started on the third floor of the building and quickly spread to the chemical warehouse located next to the factory. The warehouse contained bleaching powder, plastic, and hydrogen peroxide—highly flammable and hazardous materials that intensified the fire.
Chowdhury confirmed, “We have recovered 16 bodies from the second and third floors. Search and rescue operations are still underway, and the number of casualties may increase.”
Officials said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Police and army personnel have launched efforts to locate and detain the factory owners for questioning.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s interim head of government, Muhammad Yunus, expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and has ordered an independent investigation into the incident. He also directed authorities to provide all possible assistance to the victims and their families.
