New Delhi, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has announced the appointment of former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their head coach for IPL 2027. The franchise made the official announcement on Monday.
KS Viswanathan, CSK’s managing director, commented on Zaheer’s selection, stating, “The management made this decision. We wanted Zaheer Khan as head coach based on his experience. He has played over 100 matches in the IPL, and we felt he would be a great option.”
Viswanathan also highlighted the importance of MS Dhoni’s input in the selection process, saying, “Certainly, he was part of the decision. We do nothing without his advice.”
Zaheer will have the autonomy to choose his support staff as part of his new role. Viswanathan addressed questions regarding Dhoni’s future with the team, affirming, “Look, he will remain a player for us. That’s all I can say.”
Previously, Viswanathan praised Zaheer, noting, “He is a world-class bowler and has mentored many young cricketers, especially fast bowlers, in recent years. As a player, Zaheer was one of the key reasons for India’s success in the 2000s. He is one of the finest cricketing minds, and we look forward to welcoming him into our family.”
Upon his appointment, Zaheer expressed his excitement, stating, “It is an honor to be part of one of the most successful teams in IPL history. As a cricketer, I have faced CSK on the field and enjoyed every match. The atmosphere created by the super fans at Chepauk makes it even more special. I can’t wait to be part of a franchise with such a magnificent history and legacy.”
