
Indore, October 9 (Daily Kiran) : In Indore, Madhya Pradesh, police have apprehended a young man for stealing gold and cash from his girlfriend’s home. The suspect, identified as Gopal, also known as Gopi, allegedly committed the theft to finance his campaign for the position of village sarpanch.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Aman Rathore reported that the victim, Renu Sharma, filed a complaint last month after discovering the theft at her residence in the Lasudia area. She reported that a gold biscuit, a gold chain, and ₹200,000 in cash were missing.
During the investigation, police identified a suspect through the victim’s social media accounts. Gopal had been living with Renu for some time, raising suspicions after the theft. Following a thorough inquiry and technical analysis, the police team detained him.
Upon interrogation, Gopal confessed to the crime. He is originally from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Authorities recovered a 630-gram gold biscuit, a 40-gram gold chain, ₹200,000 in cash, and an iPhone from his possession. The total market value of the stolen items is estimated to be around ₹10 million.
DCP Rathore noted that Gopal is approximately 25 years old. The pair had met through social media before moving in together. Investigators are currently gathering more information about the suspect and checking for any prior criminal records.
Regarding Gopal’s intention to run for sarpanch, Rathore mentioned that further details would be sought if he had previously contested in elections.
