
Beijing, May 20: Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Great Hall of the People during Putin’s state visit to China. Both leaders agreed to advance the treaty of good neighborliness and friendly cooperation between China and Russia.
The discussions included both short-term and long-term dialogues.
During the meeting, Xi emphasized that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the treaty of good neighborliness and friendly cooperation. This treaty has laid a legal foundation for long-term goodwill, friendship, and comprehensive strategic cooperation, significantly contributing to the unprecedented development of China-Russia relations.
Xi reiterated that China and Russia are committed to developing a comprehensive strategic partnership based on equality, mutual respect, trust, and mutually beneficial cooperation. Political mutual trust has deepened, and cooperation in trade, investment, energy, science and technology, culture, and other areas has been consistently promoted, strengthening ties between the peoples of both nations.
Putin remarked that due to the joint efforts of both sides, Russia-China relations have reached an unprecedented high level. High-level exchanges are regular, and political mutual trust is strong. There has been continuous growth in bilateral trade, with energy supply and demand being mutually beneficial. Cooperation in transport, logistics, science and technology, and other sectors is deepening. Cultural exchanges are progressing well, and following the successful “Russia-China Culture Year,” the “Russia-China Education Year” will soon commence.
The two leaders also discussed major international and regional issues, including the situation in the Middle East.
After the talks, they signed and issued a joint statement on strengthening comprehensive strategic cooperation and deepening good neighborliness and friendly cooperation between China and Russia. They witnessed the signing of 20 cooperation documents in the fields of economy, trade, education, science, and technology.
During this visit, both sides issued a joint statement advocating for a multipolar world and a new type of international relations, agreeing on 20 cooperation documents in various sectors.
The leaders also met with journalists. Prior to the talks, Xi hosted a welcoming ceremony for Putin at the eastern gate square of the Great Hall of the People.
