New Delhi, August 24: The weather in New Delhi-NCR is experiencing frequent changes. At times, the intense sun and humidity are troubling residents, while sudden cloud cover brings refreshing rain.
The primary reasons for this weather shift are the active monsoon trough, a low-pressure area over Uttar Pradesh, and moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal. These weather systems have resulted in clouds and rain across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and surrounding areas. Although recent rainfall has provided some relief from the heat, the high humidity levels have led to discomfort after the rain stops.
According to the India Meteorological Department’s local forecast, the weather will remain partly cloudy in the coming days, with light to moderate rain expected. On August 24, the sky is predicted to be generally overcast, with a chance of moderate rainfall. The maximum temperature is expected to be around 35 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 25 degrees Celsius. On August 25, the maximum temperature may also reach 35 degrees, while the minimum could be 26 degrees.
The weather will continue to be predominantly cloudy, with light rain or drizzles possible. On August 26, the maximum temperature is forecasted to be 36 degrees, with a minimum of 26 degrees, and humidity levels ranging from 75% to 60%. Partial cloud cover is expected on this day. Temperatures are projected to remain consistent at 36/26 degrees from August 27 to August 29.
The impact of the rain is also evident in air quality. The rainfall and humidity have caused dust particles in the air to settle, leading to satisfactory air quality levels in several areas. Data from monitoring stations in Delhi show that Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 233, significantly higher than many other areas. Other readings include Ashok Vihar at 97, Aaya Nagar at 100, Bawana at 127, and Chandni Chowk at 109. This indicates considerable variation in air quality across different regions of the capital.
In Noida, the four active monitoring stations reported varying AQI levels. Sector-125 recorded an AQI of 186, the highest among the city’s monitored stations. In contrast, Sector-62 had an AQI of 87, Sector-1 at 104, and Sector-116 at 124. Ghaziabad also showed differences in air quality across its five active monitoring stations. Govindpuram recorded an AQI of 47, Indirapuram at 82, Loni at 124, Sanjay Nagar at 49, and Ved Vihar-Loni at 104. This indicates that air quality was relatively better in Govindpuram and Sanjay Nagar, while Loni and Ved Vihar-Loni experienced higher pollution levels.
The weather department indicates that the combination of clouds, humidity, and intermittent rainfall will likely prevent significant temperature increases in the coming days. However, when the sun emerges after the rain, humidity may rise. Residents of New Delhi-NCR can expect a mix of rain, sunshine, and humidity in the days ahead.
