New Delhi, August 7: Film director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri shared his thoughts on the recent student protests during a screening of a film about Neem Karoli Baba. Initially hesitant to comment, he later expressed his views on the matter.
Agnihotri stated, “This is democracy; such events are a part of it. Over the past 70 years, there have been thousands of protests, and there will continue to be more. They should happen. Why shouldn’t they?”
The protests were driven by demands for transparency and accuracy in the education system, particularly following the NEET paper leak that angered students. Protesters also called for the resignation of the then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
With over 20 years in the Hindi film industry, Vivek Agnihotri made his directorial debut in 2005 with the film ‘Chocolate’. He has since directed notable films such as ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’, ‘Hate Story’, ‘Buddha in a Traffic Jam’, and ‘The Tashkent Files’.
His significant recognition came from the 2022 film ‘The Kashmir Files’, which depicted the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. The film received critical acclaim and became one of the biggest hits of the year.
Following this success, he directed ‘The Vaccine War’, focused on India’s scientific efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Now, Agnihotri is preparing for the release of the next film in his ‘Files’ series, titled ‘The Delhi Files’. He is married to actress Pallavi Joshi and firmly believes that dissent is essential in a democracy, asserting that students’ voices should not be suppressed.
