Ranchi, August 6: The protests by JPSC and JSSC candidates in Jharkhand continued for the 13th day. Candidates are sitting under the open sky in the capital, Ranchi, demanding action from the government. Meanwhile, Jairam Mahto, president of the Jharkhand Democratic Revolutionary Front (JLMK) and Dumri MLA, has stated that pressure is mounting on the government.
Mahto mentioned in an interview, “The government is under pressure. They are feeling the heat. The Chief Minister, all ministers, and other ruling party MLAs are clearly showing signs of stress in the assembly.”
He reported that following the assembly proceedings, the government convened a meeting of the Cabinet Coordination Committee. This meeting, chaired by the Speaker, included leaders from all legislative parties. Mahto attended the meeting and reiterated that the government should engage directly with the students sitting under the open sky and address their pending issues. Their demands should be acknowledged and fulfilled.
The protests have seen participation from the general public and school children. A 13-year-old sixth grader named Zaid also joined the movement. Zaid expressed, “I believe that we, the students and the youth, are trying our best to advance this country, this golden bird. Whether it’s modernization, education, sports, or numerous opportunities, we just want to push this nation forward. We work hard, day and night, participating in competitive exams. What do we get in return? Either the exam paper leaks, or the exam gets canceled.”
Zaid appealed to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, saying, “I humbly request the government and Chief Minister Hemant Soren to fulfill all our needs and pay attention to our concerns, so we do not face such issues in the future.”
The protesting students have also formed an 11-member delegation for discussions. One student shared, “We have created a representative committee of 11 members, and the names have been announced. Whenever a meeting is scheduled, we will be informed of the date and time. This delegation includes 8 student representatives, 2 journalists as parent representatives, and 1 legal expert who will accompany us as a parent representative.”
In response, Minister Irfan Ansari assured that a solution would be sought. He stated, “These are our youth and our children. We are trying to find a solution. We will engage in discussions. A committee has been formed, and it will meet with them.”
