Virat Kohli Equals Sachin Tendulkars List A Century Record with Historic Knock

New Delhi, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : Indian cricket star Virat Kohli made headlines on Sunday with a remarkable unbeaten century against the West Indies in the first match of their ODI series. Kohli scored 139 runs off just 88 balls, hitting 9 sixes and 10 fours, marking a significant achievement in his career.

With this performance, Kohli matched Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most centuries in List A cricket, both having scored 60 centuries. Kohli achieved this in 338 innings, while Tendulkar reached the same milestone in 538 innings. Graham Gooch and Graham Hick follow with 44 and 40 centuries, respectively.

Kohli also became the second male cricketer to surpass 15,000 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs), achieving the feat in just 315 innings since his debut against Sri Lanka in August 2008. Tendulkar had reached this landmark in his 350th innings. Kohli is now the fastest player to reach 15,000 ODI runs, ahead of Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, who has 14,234 runs.

In terms of ODI victories, Kohli ranks third, with 112 wins, trailing only Sachin Tendulkar (127) and MS Dhoni (116).

During the match against the West Indies, Kohli scored 53 runs off Alzarri Joseph and previously scored 54 runs against Trent Boult in 2016, which remains his highest against a single bowler in ODIs. Notably, he hit 9 sixes in this match, a personal best in ODIs, surpassing his previous record of 8 sixes against Sri Lanka in 2023.

Kohli’s century was also his third-fastest in ODIs, achieved in just 74 balls. He had earlier scored centuries in 52 and 61 balls against Australia in 2013.

Kohli holds the record for the most ODI centuries against a single team, with 10 centuries each against the West Indies and Sri Lanka. Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma each have 9 centuries against Australia.

The West Indies batted first at the Greenfield International Stadium, scoring 295 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. In response, India chased down the target in 41.4 overs, with Kohli’s performance complemented by Shubman Gill, who also scored a century, leading India to an 8-wicket victory.
