London, September 27 (Daily Kiran) : England secured a commanding 223-run victory over Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI match held at The Oval in London on September 27, 2026. This win allowed England to claim the series 2-1, following their earlier success in the T20 series where they achieved a clean sweep.
After winning the first ODI by 89 runs, England faced a setback in the second match, losing by 16 runs. However, they bounced back decisively in the final match, showcasing their dominance.
In the decisive game, England posted a formidable total of 355 runs after losing seven wickets. The innings began shakily with Ben Duckett dismissed for a duck at just six runs. Tom Banton then steadied the innings, forming a crucial 62-run partnership with Joe Root for the second wicket.
Root contributed 18 runs before being dismissed. Banton continued to build momentum, partnering with captain Harry Brook to add 150 runs for the third wicket off 117 balls, taking the score to 218. Brook scored 77 runs off 66 balls, hitting two sixes and nine fours before departing.
