Mumbai, May 6: A significant uproar occurred in the Kabiribad coal mine area of Giridih district, Jharkhand, following the murder of a coal worker. On Wednesday, angry relatives and locals carried the body of the deceased, Dilip Das, from the sadar hospital without an autopsy, marching directly to the mine site. This led to intense clashes between the police and protesters.
Reports indicate that Dilip Das was killed late Tuesday night while working at the mine’s crusher. As news of his death spread early Wednesday, local residents became enraged. They insisted on justice and took the body from the hospital without waiting for a post-mortem. They proceeded towards the site office of the Kabiribad mine with the body on a stretcher.
In light of the sensitive nature of the situation, Sadar SDPO Jitwahan Oraon and Cyber DSP Abid Khan were already stationed at the mine with a heavy police presence. The police attempted to prevent the protesters from entering the site office, escalating tensions. This resulted in a physical altercation between police officers and local women. Despite the heavy opposition, the protesters broke through the security cordon and entered the office premises.
Amid the chaos, a young man attempted to create further unrest by producing a petrol-filled bottle. Quick-thinking SDPO Jitwahan Oraon managed to snatch the bottle from him, averting a potential disaster. Protesters vocally demanded the immediate arrest of the murderers and compensation, directing their anger towards the CCL management and local police.
In response to the rising tensions, Sadar Block Officer Jitendra Prasad and BDO Ganesh Rajak arrived at the scene. They began discussions with the family members, urging them to refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Currently, protests by locals continue in the mining area, with additional police forces deployed as a precaution.
