Vietnams President To Lam Begins Three-Day Visit to India

New Delhi, May 4: Vietnam’s President and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, is set to arrive in India on May 5 for a three-day visit, starting in Bodh Gaya. Following his initial engagements, he will travel to Delhi.

According to an official schedule released by the Ministry of External Affairs, To Lam will land at Gaya International Airport at 11:10 AM on May 5. He will then arrive at Air Force Station Palam at 3:20 PM to participate in various events in the capital.

On May 6, he will receive a formal welcome at the President’s House at 9 AM. Following this, he will pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat. A key event of the day will be his meeting with the Prime Minister at Hyderabad House at 11:30 AM, which will be followed by the exchange of agreements (MOUs) and a joint press statement.

In the afternoon, he will meet with the Speaker of the Lok Sabha at ITC Maurya and deliver a policy speech at an event organized by the Indian Council of World Affairs at Sapru House. In the evening, he will again meet with the President at the President’s House.

On May 7, Lam will arrive in Mumbai, where he will visit the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Following this, he will have separate meetings with the Chief Minister and Governor of Maharashtra at the Trident Hotel and participate in a business forum.

His departure is scheduled for 8:30 PM on May 7. This visit is considered significant for strengthening India-Vietnam relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and strategic cooperation.

According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, this will be To Lam’s first visit to India since being elected President in April this year. The ministry noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage in extensive discussions with President To Lam on bilateral relations and regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The statement further emphasized, “India and Vietnam share a historical and civilizational bond that has deepened over recent years. President To Lam’s visit coincides with the 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership established during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Vietnam in 2016. Discussions between the leaders are expected to invigorate bilateral relations and open new avenues for cooperation between India and Vietnam.”
