Video of Officer Assaulting Youth Goes Viral; Opposition Leader Demands Suspension

Ranchi, March 9: In a shocking incident, Babulal Marandi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, has called for the suspension of Savita Singh, a Circle Officer (CO) from the Itkhori block in Chatra district. This demand follows the circulation of a viral video showing Singh assaulting a young man with a baton.

The video depicts two police officers attempting to place the young man into a police vehicle when CO Savita Singh arrives, wielding a baton. She is seen striking the young man on the back of his head and subsequently warning him while pointing a finger. Bystanders recorded the entire incident on their mobile phones.

Reports indicate that this incident occurred on February 20 during the Itkhori Festival. It was during this event that someone captured the video, which later spread across social media platforms.

Marandi shared the video on social media sites X and Facebook, expressing his concern over the incident. He stated that it is alarming for an administrative officer to strike a young man in the presence of police personnel.

He emphasized that officials in administrative positions are expected to exhibit restraint, sensitivity, and lawful conduct. Marandi argued that if the young man had committed any offense, legal action could have been taken against him. However, publicly assaulting someone in such a manner contradicts administrative decorum.

He has urged the Deputy Commissioner of Chatra to suspend the CO immediately and to file a First Information Report (FIR) against her for further action.
