Vice President Radhakrishnan to Attend Sikkim Statehood Day Celebrations on May 16

New Delhi, May 15: Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan will embark on his first visit to Sikkim after taking office. This trip is scheduled for Saturday, as confirmed by an official on Friday.

During his visit, the Vice President will participate in the Statehood Day celebrations in Gangtok.

Sikkim recently gained attention when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Gangtok last month to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the state’s formation.

During that visit, he inaugurated and laid the foundation for several development projects worth approximately ₹4,000 crores and enjoyed a football session with the youth of Gangtok.

Prime Minister Modi shared images of his football session on the social media platform X, stating that there is no joy like playing football with young friends in the beautiful morning of Gangtok!

In another post, he remarked that the football session with these youths was indeed filled with energy!

The Prime Minister also led a two-kilometer cultural roadshow, where enthusiastic residents lined the streets waving the national flag and welcoming him in traditional attire.

He engaged in a ‘knowledge-enhancing dialogue’ with Padma awardees and several distinguished personalities from various fields.

Sharing details of the meeting on X, the Prime Minister expressed that it was wonderful to discuss various issues with attendees and emphasized the importance of connecting with individuals who have made remarkable contributions in their respective fields.

According to officials, this dialogue included Padma award winners, social activists, artists, educators, athletes, and other notable figures recognized for their service and excellence.

The Prime Minister’s interaction with award winners and distinguished individuals is seen as part of his broader efforts to honor grassroots contributors, innovators, and those playing a crucial role in nation-building.

Sources indicate that the discussions covered a range of topics, including development, culture, innovation, education, social welfare, and opportunities for youth. Participants also shared their experiences and suggestions with the Prime Minister.
